Iraqi interpreters: Honour redeemed

For whatever the reason the Government has now agreed that upto 1500 Iraqis - interpreters and their families - can come to live in Britain. The lives of these people had been put at very high risk as a result of the services they had provided to British Armed Forces in Iraq with death squads having already murdered scores of local translators who they accuse of "collaborating".
The Government initially took a hard line only granting asylum to a few of them but seems now to have bowed to pressure and promised that Iraqis who risked their lives to work for the Army will be allowed to settle in Britain.
This about-turn has salvaged some of Britain's reputation and will hopefully reassure those in Afghanistan who are assisting our troops particularly in their "hearts and minds" campaigns.
