Royal Anglian Afghanistan Memorial Fund: great achievement

The Afghanistan Memorial Fund, set up in November to finance a permanent memorial in honour of the nine members of 1st Battalion The Vikings who lost their lives during the last tour in Afghanistan, has now reached £215,000, twice the original target.
The Fund will also provide support to the families of those killed and will help to rehabilitate the troops who were injured in the fighting and enable them to continue their military career where possible.
The monument will take the form of a statue of a Royal Anglian soldier with a plinth for the names of those killed and steps on which wreaths can be laid. It will bear the names of Pte Chris Gray, L/cpl George Davey, Cpl Darren Bonner, L/cpl Alex Hawkins, Pte Tony Rawson, Capt David Hicks, Pte John Thrumble, Pte Aaron James McClure and Pte Robert Foster.
