At the packed General Meeting of the University of Manchester Students Union yesterday, students cheered and clapped as the motion to ban Army, RAF and Navy recruiting officers from university premises was thrown out.
Former student Andy Cunningham, the UMSU campaigns officer who proposed the motion, was however jeered when he addressed the meeting. As would be expected, having lost the vote he vowed that he would bring it before the next General Meeting in October... and the one after that in April 2009...
