The MoD has increased its order for Cougar-variant Mastiff armoured 
vehicles from the 140 it announced last December to 174. The vehicles, supplied by the aptly named Force Protection Inc, are scheduled for delivery by the end of the year and will cost £58.54 million. The news of the increased order comes only days after a coroner called for better protection for British troops serving on the frontline. Cougars, already in service with the US Marine Corps, are specifically designed to provide soldiers with enhanced protection against landmines and IEDs.
