The Royal Dragoon Guards battlegroup, having successfully completed their mission in Iraq ahead of schedule, are now packing up and returning to their base in Germany. The Guards had been deployed to Iraq to train up Iraqi security forces and to carry out anti-smuggling operations in the Iraq-Iran border area. The guys have been so successful in their work that they've achieved their objectives in only three months.
Trooper Tom Hamilton, 20, from Omagh, N.I said "It has been hard work at times but the lads are proud of what we have done. I think that we have achieved a lot. We are pleased to be going home although we'll be thinking of our mates in the other squadrons from the Regiment who are staying on."
Well done, lads! Glad you're all home safe.
