Crackers: MoD calls in EOD

On the one hand the MoD has banned the transport of Christmas crackers by the RAF. Hundreds of packages sent from family and friends to soldiers serving abroad have had to be "disabled" because regulations class the snap strip in crackers as an explosive.

On the other hand, despite being warned numerous times of the dangers associated with the mid-air re-fueling of Nimrods, the MoD failed to implement safety measures. Nimrod XV230 exploded whilst re-fueling and 14 servicemen were killed.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said "The safety of aircraft and personnel was paramount".
