I've only just read about this. Back in June Scarborough started its 'Give Our Boys A Boost' campaign by offering a hero's welcome to all members of Britain's Armed Forces visiting the town. Many local hotels, B and Bs, restaurants and businesses have signed up to the scheme and offer a range of discounts to Army, Royal Navy and RAF personnel as well as to veterans.
The names of the businesses participating in the scheme is given on the Heroes Welcome in Scarborough website.
The welcome and support shown by the people of Scarborough was witnessed recently at this year's Scarborough Beached Festival when Forces' charities were the main beneficiaries of funds raised at the event. Earlier in the year members of 2 Battalion Yorkshire Regiment were also given a hero's welcome at Scarborough when they paraded through the town following their tour in Afghanistan.
Nice one, Scarborough! It would be good if more towns were to follow Scarborough's example.
