Owing to some arcane legal statute the people of Royston in Hertfordshire will not be able to hold the hoped-for freedom parade for members of The Royal Anglian Regiment; apparently a Royal Charter is needed to be able to stage such events. So instead the local Council has decided to plant a tree in the town's Memorial Gardens in memory of the nine soldiers from 1 Battalion who were killed while on duty in Afghanistan. The memorial tree and plaque will be unveiled during this year's Remembrance Parade in November.

Royal Anglian Regiment: Royston memorial
Owing to some arcane legal statute the people of Royston in Hertfordshire will not be able to hold the hoped-for freedom parade for members of The Royal Anglian Regiment; apparently a Royal Charter is needed to be able to stage such events. So instead the local Council has decided to plant a tree in the town's Memorial Gardens in memory of the nine soldiers from 1 Battalion who were killed while on duty in Afghanistan. The memorial tree and plaque will be unveiled during this year's Remembrance Parade in November.
