The MoD has recently awarded a £10million contract to US company ITT to supply AN/PVS-14 NightVision equipment to the British Army. Called Head Mounted Night Vision Systems (HMNVS), these light-weight, single lens monoculars are mounted on soldiers' helmets and need only a single AA battery to power them. Not only will HMNVS improve effectiveness of night-time operations, but, because it can be adapted to a camera or camcorder, the action can also be filmed for subsequent playback.
